The epic radio series "From Out of the North" was created by McCune at KFAR Radio in Fairbanks and syndicated throughout Alaska.
Don told fascinating stories of the North in his familiar style that would win him many awards.
Two taped episodes were found in a private collection broadcast in 1955.
"The Founding of Fairbanks" comes to life as McCune visits Pedro Dome and quotes the words of Judge Wickersham in his book "Old Yukon".
Gene Potter's book "The Flying North" helps McCune honor both men in the The Plane Crash of Will Rodgers and Wiley Post at Barrow, broadcast on the 20th anniverary of their tragic accident.
This episode pays tribute to pioneer aviator Joe Crossen, whose sad responsiblity it was to bring the bodies out from Barrow.

A live broadcast of the "1951 Nenana Ice Classic: Live at Breakup" was found on a glass disk recording at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks.
Also found was an interview with Don and Bradford Washburn concerning Mt. McKinley Cosmic Ray Resarch.
Includes Don singing The Story of Sorrento and a recording of natives performing Kotzebue Dances.

Digitally recorded in 1992 by Don McCune, these songs were originally sung on the Captain Puget Show on KOMO TV in Seattle, aired from 1957 to 1966. Aboard the ship WINDWARD 4, Captain Puget™ sailed the northwest airwaves, singing songs of the Pacific Northwest and taking his viewers on filmed adventures around Puget Sound.
The Captain Puget Show won the national Sylvania Award in 1958 for the "Best Locally Produced Children's Show in the
Nation." The Emmys did not exist at that time; the Sylvania award was the equivalent of a national Emmy.
