Care of DVD's
When purchasing a DVD player, find out what DVD formats it will play. Many specialty DVD's are created in DVD-R format, like some of ours.
Although a DVD has better visual quality than a VHS videocassette, a DVD is much more delicate than a videocassette.
Fingerprints, scratches, or dust may prevent the disk from playing properly. When handling a DVD, hold it by the edge or the center circle. Store your DVD in its case, upright, like books on a shelf.

One Man's Survival

Gary Anderson of Seattle recounts the dramatic, true-life story of his 38-day survival ordeal in the wilderness of northern British Columbia.
Gary survived the light plane crash that claimed his father, but he had no food or matches, and only light clothing.
Exploration Northwest cameras retrace his 30-mile trek down the Alsec River where, unable to go further, he built a shelter of moss and sticks and lived there until he was found by a pilot by chance.
His rescue made worldwide news.

Historic 1942 film of the Army Engineers' construction of the Alcan Highway is featured in this trip with Lynden Transport Incorporated on the 1500-mile Alcan Highway from Dawson Creek to Fairbanks, with stops at Fort Nelson, Watson Lake, Contact Creek, Whitehorse, ghost town Kluane, Beaver Creek and Tetlin Junction.

Contestants from Yukon Territory and Alaska meet in Whitehorse in 1971 for sled dog races, backpacking contests, and sled-dog pulls to celebrate the coming of Spring. It's still an annual celebration.
This KOMO-TV special, hosted by Dick Foley, looks at Don McCune's remarkable 50-year broadcast career with clips from The Captain Puget Show, Challenge and Exploration Northwest. Includes interviews of film crew and family, and some humorous out-takes from Exploration Northwest.

Also, a tugboat journey during the 6-weeks that are ice-free between Point Barrow and Prudoe Bay aids the effort.

A truck-convoy takes supplies across the Brooks Range on a 400-mile ice road from Fairbanks to Prudoe Bay in 15-days. Not open to the public, this road is traveled only by convoys carrying their own fuel, food and sleeping quarters.

The Rainier Auto Sports Club sponsors the Norwester, a 900-mile, 3-day auto rally that tests the skills of the driver and navigator.
Filmed in Washington June 1970, the original broadcast master was erased. This program was re-mastered from a film workprint and an audio-cassette recording of the narration.
1973 Olympus Rally

The Puget Sound Sports Car Club sponsored the northwests first professional rally with a 2-day endurance run teetering on the edge of thousand-foot cliffs on the backroads of the Olympic Peninsula. 38 sports-car teams participated.

An exciting 8-day trek across the Bailey Ridge in Washington's Olympic Mountains starts at Sol Duc Hot Springs, covering the same territory as Disney filmed in its 1930's Olympic Elk feature with Herb Crisler. Crossing Low Divide, the party travels the route of the 1890 Press expedition. The trail ends near Lake Quinault.
