We attend a large number of events during the year. The 44-Footer Motor Lifeboat
This site is dedicated to the remarkable U.S. Coast Guard 44' Motor Lifeboats, a boat in which her crew always had the confidence that she would bring them safely back to port. The 44' MLB was designed by the U.S. Coast Guard, with work starting on the prototype (USCG 44300) in April 1961, which was completed on the 9 March 1962. A total of 110, 44' MLB's were built for the U.S. Coast Guard, with the last boat (USCG 44409) being completed in 1972.

A replica of a British barkentine sailing ship. She visited Port Townsend, Washington during the 1999 Wooden Boat Festival there.

KALAKALA, Historic Ferry
If ever there was an historic Seattle icon, the KALAKALA is it. Peter Bevis rescued this famous vessel from oblivion in Alaska and returned it to Seattle.
LADY WASHINGTON
A replica of the ship LADY WASHINGTON that Captain George Gray used to explore the Columbia River. If you ever had the desire to sail on a large wooden ship, go for a ride on this marvelous vessel! Her homeport is Aberdeen, but she cruises around the northwest during the summer and takes the public for rides for a reasonable fee to help support her. She was used in a recent movie.
Lightship Sailors Association
The association is comprised of an elite group of people that have served aboard U.S. Coast Guard lightships -- floating light house vessels that provide critical navigational aid to mariners at the entrances of sounds, bays, and large rivers.
They have an interesting and outstanding website.
Mariner's Museum, Newport News, Virginia
A wonderful maritime museum on the east coast. Has a fabulous collection of figureheads.
Maritime Heritage Foundation
The Maritime Heritage Foundation was founded by several maritime historical organizations in the Pacific Northwest to coordinate and promote the interpretation of its rich heritage to the general public. Its goal is to create a Maritime Heritage Center that will provide facilities, technical resources and program coordination for the many heritage groups in the region. Active partners in the project include The Center for Wooden Boats, Northwest Seaport, The Northwest Schooner Foundation, The Virginia V Foundation, The Schooner Martha Foundation, Seattle Fireboat Duwamish and the United Indians of All Tribes Foundation.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
This federal oceanographic research institution has a big oceanographic research ship base called "Pacific Marine Center" on the east shore of Lake Union in Seattle. The agency produces marine charts and oceanographic data among many other things, and is the nation's oldest civilian government agency. This is a rich website, providing acccess to tons of information about weather, oceans, real-time satellite imagery, fisheries, coasts, charting, navigation, and public-domain photos.

A group of steam power enthusiasts; mostly boats.
Northwest Seaport Maritime Heritage Center
A nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the maritime heritage of Puget Sound and the Northwest Coast, and to the development of maritime-based educational programs and opportunities for the broad community. Vessels: ARTHUR FOSS, SWIFTSURE, TWILIGHT, WAWONA.
The Propeller Club
Dedicated to the enhancement and well-being of all interests of the maritime community on a national and international basis. The Propeller Club aggressively promotes the maritime industry through many of its programs and partnering with other similar organizations. Our goal is to educate legislators and the public as to the importance and necessity of all waterborne commerce.
Ramsgate Lifeboat Station
Official web site for the RNLI Ramsgate Lifeboat Station. The RNLI exists to save lives at sea and is wholly supported by voluntary contributions.

U.S. Coast Guard: SAFEPORT

U.S. Coast Guard Museum, Seattle
Displays nautical items, ship models, Coast Guard memorabilia and more than 15,000 photographs dating from the mid-1800's. Extensive periodicals and research materials are also available. Thousands of Coast Guard related items, Part of the USS Constitution and the rudder of the HMS Bounty, lighthouse and buoy lenses, old and new uniforms, ship's wheels, binnacles, a Coast Guard Flag from the first Space Shuttle flight, and some of SM1 Douglas Munro's (The Coast Guard's Medal of Honor recipient) personal items from WWII.
U.S. Geological Survey Water Resources Data
Real-time and historical steamflow data from many gauges around the northwest, avalanche warnings, snowpack data (skiers, take note!), and weather forecasts.
U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point
You too may seek to earn the Kings Point "edge." Our Academy will teach you how to succeed in the maritime and transportation industries or the Armed Forces, while it prepares you to receive a bachelor of science degree, a merchant marine license, and an appointment as a commissioned officer on reserve or active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces.

British Columbia Archives

A well-known museum at Astoria, Oregon. COLUMBIA river lightship is moored there.

Eastern Washington Genealogical Society
Particularly helpful about eastern Washington history -- especially the confusing history of the county in which Spokane is located.
Hydroplane and Race Boat Museum
See the grand old "thunder boats" from the old days of hydro racing in Seattle, where this museum is located.

Yes, there really is a museum to that wonderful gelatin product. It's located in Leroy, New York, and it's a pretty interesting website, with all the history about the product.
Library of Congress: Panorama Photographs
Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park - Seattle Unit
In 1897 news of a gold strike in the Canadian Yukon reached Seattle, triggering a stampede North to the Klondike Gold Fields. From 1897 to 1898, tens of thousands of people from across the United States and around the world descended upon Seattle's commercial district. While in Seattle, the hopeful miners purchased millions of dollars of food, clothing, equipment, pack animals, and steamship tickets. The final outcome of this great stampede helped shape the Seattle we know today, bolstering the city's reputation as the Queen City of the Pacific Northwest.

A fascinating site that includes an international list of maritime historical societies, biographies, museums, individual ships (including those marvelous clipper ships!), conferences and lectures, ship models, rigging, seamanship, gunnery, images, and links. Well worth your time.
Museum of Flight
This is a wonderful museum located in south Seattle. Many planes hang from the enormous glass ceiling. They have a formerly super-secret "Blackbird" supersonic spy plane, a Concorde, and the Boeing Dash-80 (707) prototype. Located at Boeing Field.
Museum of History and Industry
This museum has wonderful exhibits and events. Located near the Montlake Bridge in Seattle.
NOAA Photo Library
A wonderful on-line collection of photographs from all over the place about NOAA's activities past and present. If you ever sailed on NOAA ship, check this out. Includes searchable database.
